Your Thought Partner
Hi there, I’m Jane Magnuson, a certified executive coach, former lawyer and legal director, and mom of two.
Originally from Bangkok, Thailand, I founded Edwards Magnuson to help leaders in law unlock their full potential. Through my coaching, I guide clients in clarifying their vision, developing strategies for career success, and achieving meaningful growth. My approach is practical, results-driven, and tailored to meet each client where they are.
With nearly two decades of experience as a Big Law attorney, corporate executive, and founder, I specialize in coaching attorneys at law firms and corporations. I have worked with clients across the globe and deeply understand the challenges attorneys face—whether it’s navigating leadership, developing business, managing time effectively, or integrating work and life. My first-hand legal experience allows me to empathize with the pressures of the profession, the dynamics of law firm practice, and the complexities of leadership roles.
Before becoming a coach, I practiced law at Sullivan & Cromwell and Hogan Lovells in New York City, as well as Jackson Walker in Texas. I later transitioned into corporate leadership, serving as Deputy General Counsel and a strategic leadership team member at Citizens, Inc. (NYSE: CIA), and leading risk management at National Instruments Corporation (NASDAQ: NI), a technology company with a market cap of $8 billion. Throughout my career, I’ve been a trusted advisor to executives, directors, and professionals, with expertise in leadership development, strategic planning, and motivating high-performing teams.
I know firsthand the challenges that leaders face. I remember balancing a demanding career with a young family while trying to stay true to myself. To me, success isn’t just about professional achievement—it’s about waking up feeling capable, staying connected with loved ones, and ending the day fulfilled by the work I do.
Coaching has the power to change lives. Even the most experienced professionals can find new success and fulfillment with the right guidance. I’ve seen my clients transform the way they balance high-pressure jobs with a sense of purpose and possibility, and I’m passionate about helping others do the same.
In addition to my executive coaching certification from the Center for Executive Coaching, I hold a degree in molecular genetics with first class honors from the University of Sussex in Brighton, U.K., a graduate diploma of law and a legal practice course with distinction from BPP Law School in London, and a J.D. from UCLA Law School.
My Coaching Experience
Although I refer to myself as an “Executive Coach,” I work with a broad range of clients and not just executives. I work with everyone from entry-level professionals to veteran executives, in industries from law to finance, medicine to media, start-ups to large companies. To me, leadership doesn’t just mean having the title or a big corner office. A leader is anyone who brings out the best in others.
My Core Values
CLARITY
Simple language and ideas are easier to understand and put into action. As a geneticist and lawyer, I break down my method into easy-to-follow, practical strategies that fit into your busy lives. Let’s face it, if it is not easy to follow, it is probably not going to work. I also use metaphors and literary references to accelerate learning.
EXCELLENCE
Excellence means showing up fully, embracing challenges, and committing to continuous growth. In my coaching, I hold myself to the highest standards and provide the support you need to unlock your full potential.
TRUST
I trust that you have the resources, insights and courage to achieve the success you want. Like all of us, we sometimes get stuck and need support and guidance to help us move forward. I care, I listen deeply, and I create space for you to be who you are. Together, we build on your strengths and insights to accelerate your learning and success.
My Approach
VISION
I ask questions to clarify your career goals, your success metrics, and the things that you care most about. Knowing where you want to go and what you want is the first step.
PLAN OF ACTION
I help you develop and establish a clear plan of action to achieve your vision. This involves looking at where you are and building on the things you are already doing well while creating greater efficiency, ease, and fun.
MINDSET
I help you gain awareness of the mindsets and beliefs that are holding you back so that you can get to the next level. I know from firsthand experience that success starts with an internal game that is influenced by the way we think about ourselves.
MEASURE
I will help you achieve measurable results and set milestones for success. To improve something, we need to find a way to track it.
